B5 Apprentice Challenge: Inspiring Story
I’m still in the game — but just barely. Go over to Taxgirl and vote for Yielding Wealth.
This week’s B5 Apprentice challenge is to share a success story that inspired us. This weekend I saw the culmination of a great success story: my mom.
My mom just graduated with her Bachelor degree. She always regretted not finishing her degree when she was younger. As a result, she encouraged me in my efforts to get a good education. And she never gave up on her own dream. She went back to school at age 48, and now, at age 50, she is a college graduate.
Success in business and personal finance may not always come immediately. You may have to encourage others in their goals, and you may have to set some things aside as life gets in the way. But you should always have dreams and goals, and always think of ways to achieve them. And be on the look out for opportunities.
Many pooh-poohed my mom for going back so late in the game. “What’s the point?” they asked. And many just told her to accept that she would never have a degree. But she held fast to her dream, made plans and at the opportune moment, and, most importantly, recognized that it was time. And now she has found success.
