Business Channel Friday Fun Post: Airline Charges Fares By The Pound?

Right now, one of the issues afflicting consumers is the increasing cost of air travel. Indeed, I wrote about a new policy to charge $15 for a first checked bag not too long ago. And Million Dollar Journey has a rather enlightening post on increasing airline charges, including new fuel surcharges.
And now, there’s another airline charges structure in town: pay by the pound. This gag Web site, Derrie-Air, proposes carbon neutrality by charging by the pound. Do you think that it brings attention to environmental issues? Is is making fun of increasingly ridiculous airline charges? Or is it offensive on a variety of levels? And, perhaps most of all, do you think that this is a feasible business model? Would you pay by the pound to fly?
I checked my weight and added a 50 pound bag. If they are listing prices that are round trip, it actually costs less for me to fly when I pay by the pound.
And come back and tell me what you think.

It had to be intentional! I thought it was funny as heck. The funny thing is, rocking an overnight bag I would pay less to fly by the pound than I would paying what rates are now. Especially since the faux website promises first class for everyone! Those tickets are $1000 and up!

No kidding. Rat-pack movies? And if I did drink, I could get top-shelf vodka!
