What’s Good for the Environment can be Good for the Wallet

by miranda on October 15th, 2007

Blog Action Day has finally arrived, and I am ready to post on how you can save money – and even make money – by doing what’s good for the environment.

Saving money with environmentally friendly practices

Even though things like solar panels and CFL bulbs will cost you money up front, the fact of the matter is that they pay for themselves down the road in energy savings. And now, with mortgage lenders offering incentives through green mortgages, you can make energy efficient changes more easily. Plus, don’t forget that you can get tax credits for installing such environmentally friendly items as good, recycled insulation, energy efficient windows and solar panels. And you can even get tax credits for buying a hybrid.

Not to mention the utility bill savings and the savings in gas. That’s money right back in your pocket.

MAKING money with environmentally friendly practices

You can do more than just save money on sound environmental practices. You can make money when you invest in the environment. There are funds, like the Sierra Club Fund, that are made up only of companies that are eco-friendly. Investing in clean technology, such as solar and wind power, and biofuels, may also yield results down the road. And you will be supporting companies with environmentally friendly practices.

Nice post. I think that way not enough people know about their green investing options; it’s too bad. There are so many great green ways to invest and you’re right on about eco-ways saving money. Happy BA day!
